General Information

Tell us about the unit(s):
• Number of Beds - 12
• Number of Staff - 22 (10 day shift/12 night shift)
• Type of staff: ALL RN only
o Day Shift - Based on acuity & Number of patients: CNC/Charge + 2 RN (increase RN per acuities and number of patients)
o Night Shift - Based on acuity & Number of patients: CNC/Charge + 2 RN (increase RN per acuities and number of patients)
• Patient Ratios - 1:1; 1:2; 1:3 - Exchange transfusion 2:1
• Type of equipment - HFOV, SIMV, NIMV, CPAP, HFNC, Monitors, Alaris pump for IV; Medfusion or Medela for gavage feeds, Medela milk warmers; Phototherapy, Isolettes & radiant warmers, blood warmer; blanket warmer; Glucometer
• EMR -Meditech for orders/labs and Medication/breastmilk and GE Centricity - CPN for nursing charting

Skill Set Most recruited for:

Must have : candidates without these skills will not be considered for the role.
• Assist with intubations & capable to handle on ventilator and respiratory supportive equipment independently of RT in unit
• Assist with procedural & surgical bedside skills: UAC/UVC/PICC line placement & surgical procedures such as Broviac insertion; removal of cysts/growths in mouth/skin, circumcisions, etc
• IV insertion proficiency
• Assist with ophthalmology examinations
• Assist with chest tube insertions and maintenance of equipment: chest tube drainage, collection, water seal, and suction devices
• Assist with Lumbar Punctures
• Phlebotomy skills to obtain lab specimens
• Insertion of ng/nj tubes and maintenance of equipment including knowledge of how to feed patient utilizing these supplies
• Independently insert NG/Salem sump to intermittent and continuous suction
• Wound & Ostomy care and supplies associated
• All nursing care related to a Level III NICU and Small Baby Protocol
• Comprehension how to use: Emergency ("code" or "crash") cart with emergency drugs with size/weight appropriate neonatal unit dose
• How and when to use a defibrillator
• Ability to assist with Exchange Transfusion: Including set up and calculations
• Competent in use of Usual & Customary NICU equipment independently
Preferred or nice to have : candidates with these skills will be considered first.
• Capable of attending high risk deliveries

List typical procedures performed on unit(s):
• See must have skills as associated procedures done in Level III NICU

• Breakdown of classification of acuity
"Intensive care" is that care which is provided to neonates and infants who require:
1) twelve hours or more of nursing care by a registered nurse per 24-hour
period; and
2) continuous cardiopulmonary monitoring; and
3} other specialized care technology for their multisystem problems.

b. "Intermediate care" is that care which is provided to neonates and infants who require:
1) greater than or equal to eight hours, but less than 12 hours, of nursing
care by a registered nurse per 24-hour period; and
2) other medically necessary support.

c. "Continuing care" is that care which is provided to neonates and infants who require:
1) greater than or equal to six hours, but less than eight hours, of nursing
care by a registered nurse per 24-hour period; and
2) may have previously received intermediate or intensive care but who no
longer require these levels of care.

Weekends and On call(if any)
Every other weekend
Call if low census

• Type of equipment - Impella 5.0, IABP, (CRRT & ECMO starting in March)

• EMR - Meditech

The new 200,000 sq. ft. building features a soaring 3-story lobby and 90 additional private patient rooms offering our patients and their loved ones a winning combination of technological advancement and compassionate, comprehensive care by a team of outstanding healthcare professionals.
In addition, we completed our fourth floor addition. This vertical expansion, build-out of our third floor, has brought another 90 new private patient rooms to our community. And we're not done yet. In 2015 we completed the seismic retrofit of our original tower and renovated beautiful private patient rooms to be equipped with state-of-the-art technology.
