Laboratory Manager
Martha's Vineyard, MA
On-Site Role
$50 - $55 per hour
Contract Length: 52 weeks with opportunity to convert to full-time
Hours: 40 hours per week
Start Date: ASAP
ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client, a major hospital system in the northeast, is seeking a Laboratory Manager to oversee 24x7 operations at their hospital laboratory on Martha's Vineyard. This role holds full accountability for all aspects of laboratory services, including staffing, workflow, quality assurance, safety, and regulatory compliance. The Laboratory Manager serves as the primary clinical and operational lead, delegating oversight to the laboratory supervisor as appropriate, and is expected to provide bench coverage during staffing shortfalls or call-outs. The successful candidate will guide the lab through regulatory reviews and inspections, develop and maintain robust QA systems, supervise and train staff, coordinate clinical trials, and ensure adherence to CLIA, Joint Commission, FACT, and OSHA standards. Residency on Martha’s Vineyard is required.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Manage daily laboratory operations, including staffing, workflow, quality, safety, and regulatory compliance for 24x7 coverage
- Develop and maintain quality assurance (QA) systems to ensure high performance and effective remedial action on deviations from performance specifications
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory agencies, including CLIA, Joint Commission, FACT, and OSHA
- Prepare for and lead the laboratory through all regulatory reviews and inspections
- Assign, monitor, and supervise work in accordance with laboratory SOPs and applicable federal, state, and regulatory requirements
- Oversee coordination of clinical trials with principal investigators, study coordinators, QA, and compliance teams
- Conduct interviews, recommend candidates for hire, and maintain adequate staffing for continuous laboratory operations
- Lead staff training and education initiatives, including safety, infection control, and compliance requirements
- Delegate and share oversight of staff and projects with the laboratory supervisor
- Provide bench coverage as needed during staffing shortfalls or call-outs
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor's Degree in Laboratory Sciences or a related field
- ASCP Certification
- 5+ years of laboratory experience
- 3+ years of demonstrated leadership experience in a hospital-based CLIA laboratory
- Willingness and ability to reside on Martha's Vineyard
- Ability to cover bench duties as needed for staffing shortfalls or call-outs
- Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance (CLIA, Joint Commission, FACT, OSHA)
- Experience managing laboratory operations, staffing, workflow, quality, and safety
- Proven ability to lead staff training and education
- Excellent communication, organizational, and supervisory skills
