Unit Information: 4Heart, Cardiovascular Progressive Care (CVPC)

Location: Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC

Address: 509 Biltmore Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801
Floor: E4 – CVPC

Building: E Heart Tower

General Information

Tell us about the unit(s): Primary patient population is CV surgery and vascular surgery to include open heart surgery (CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR, etc), thoracic lung surgery (lobectomy, thoracotomy, etc.), esophagogastrectomy, AAA (open and endovascular), fem-pop bypass, carotid endarterectomies. We also receive overflow medical cardiology patients with diagnoses of heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, heart block, etc.
\u2022 Number of Beds – 40 cardiac surgery stepdown beds
\u2022 Number of Staff – approximately 100 total
\u2022 Type of staff:
o Day Shift – 1 charge RN (routinely out of staffing), 13 RNs, 4 PCTs, 1.33 HUC
o Night Shift – 1 charge RN (routinely out of staffing), 13 RNs, 4 PCTs, 0.33 HUC
\u2022 Patient Ratios – 1:5 patients per RN, 1:13 for PCTs
\u2022 Type of equipment – Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, various lifts
\u2022 EMR – Cerner
