Patient Diagnoses: Our unit is a secured medical unit. In order to be admitted to our unit, the patients have to have a primary medical diagnosis but typically have a history of mental illness as well. We care for patients who are in alcohol withdrawal, have a history of IV drug use, dementia, aggressive behaviors, and anything that a med/surg unit would care for.
Special Procedures/Unit Details: Also, as you are looking for candidates for our positions we are more of a medical unit than psych. We definitely do both and the patients have an underlying mental illness most times, but they are very medically heavy patients, so we need candidates that are very comfortable with things such as IV drugs, foley catheters, dressing changes, COPD management etc.
It gets a little muddy sometimes since we are behavioral health, but those that have done behavioral for a long time and have not done medical or maybe have never done medical are usually not comfortable in this environment.
Special Equipment: **Manager wants MS RN who are comfortable with caring for Behavioral diagnosis **Behavioral Health RNs must have previous MS exp ***WILL BE CARING FOR MS PATIENTS W/ PSYCH HISTORY/DIAGNOSIS**** *** reviewed 7/22- no skills required, 2 years MS exp and preferred BH inpatient exp
