Unit Information: CVICU 3rd floor Heart Tower

Location: 3rd floor Heart Tower

General Information

Tell us about the unit
Ø 19 bed mixed unit CVICU/CVRU who runs with a 1:2 or 1:1 ratio depending on acuity. Hold over downgraded patients may be 1:3.
Ø A unit with highly trained CVICU/CVRU charges nurses who are free to assist you with any issues.
Ø We also have an educator who will begin your orientation.
Ø 13 dayshift RNS and 11 nightshift RNS with a nurses aide on all shifts.
Ø We provide heart surgery to around 850 hearts per year.
Ø Core nurses are trained in critical care, heart care, recovery and all devices as they progress through their career.
Ø An ECMO team nurse run for those who need, Also Impellas, IABP and LVADS regularly. This is a high acuity, friendly unit which loves to give great care.
Ø GE monitors and a Cerner EMR.

Typical hiring profile

Skill Set Most recruited for:

Must have : candidates without these skills will not be considered for the role.
Ø BLS/ACLS
Ø Critical Care training
Ø 2 years CVICU or CVRU experience.
Ø A love for surgical heart care
Ø High energy, upbeat personality
Preferred or nice to have : candidates with these skills will be considered first.
Certification in Critical Care, Cardiac Surgery or Recovery Room care

List typical procedures performed on unit(s):
• IABP
• IMPELLA
• Hemodynamics
• Frequent ambulation of patients
• Pulling Chest TUBES
• Pulling Pacer wires
• LVADS care (supported by team)
• Intubation/Extubation

Best personality Fit:
• High energy, friendly nurse who is a life learner and who has critical care, cardiac skills or recovery skills
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS:
• ACLS
Floating Area(s):
• All ICUS and Stepdown
• Where needed to other units also

Dress Code :
• Scrub Color/Attire – navy blue or white scrubs, nursing shoes, hair off shoulder, no fake nails,

Unit Guidelines/Policies : Please feel free to attach unit policies and guidelines.
• Nurse will arrive to unit ready for work no earlier than 7 minutes prior or post shift start 0645
• Overtime must be approved by CNCs
• Please see attached notes. However pretty much if you havent done it here please have a second nurse (CNC) guide you. We want you safe

Weekends and On call(if any)
Every other.
Extra days off in contract please
